I am a girl attending freshman year of highschool in the New Jersey State. The school I go to is on the other side of my city from where I live(2.1 miles). From kindergarten to 8th grade the minimum on getting NJ transit tickets is 2 miles, so I assumed that I was going to get bus tickets in highschool so my mother doesnt have to spend money on bus tickets. But when they were giving out bus tickets, I was denied them as I was not eligible for them. Apparently the minimum for Highschool is 2.5 miles. I was bummed out- but that's when I realized that a lot of my other classmates got denied bus tickets. A lot of them live 2.1-2.3 miles away from the school. If I'm being honest- I got mad. 1/3 of the school was denied tickets because they weren't eligible. Many of the kids parents are in situations in which they cant keep paying for bus tickets. That leaves us with two options. The first one is that we have to walk home, putting our safety at risk. The second option is having to pay for the tickets, as which I said, many parents cant afford. Please lend a hand and help children have a safe ride home.
