THE NEW FOREST 20MPH WITH SPEED HUMPS

The Issue

THE NEW FOREST ANIMALS ARE DYING NEEDLESSLY

I'm part of a community that cares deeply for all our neighborhood inhabitants - people, pets, and wildlife alike. What breaks my heart is the sight of countless animals, victims of reckless and high-speed driving, lying lifeless on the streets. This grievous situation can no longer be tolerated. It is time we take action to reduce road tragedies that could easily be prevented.

We propose the enforcement of a 20 MPH speed limit in our community, coupled with the installation of speed humps throughout the New Forest. Lower speed limits lead to significantly fewer accidents. A U.S study published in the British Medical Journal showed a 5.4% decline in the number of fatalities for each 1 mph reduction in average speed (BMJ, 2001). Furthermore, the use of speed humps has been associated with a decrease in traffic speed, volume and road injuries according to an evaluation undertaken by the City of Portland Bureau of Traffic Management.

Our initiative aims not only to protect animals but also to ensure the safety of children, the elderly, cyclists, and every other member of our community. A safer neighborhood is what we all desire, and it begins with us.

Please sign the petition to support a 20 MPH Speed Limit and the installation of speed humps in our area. We must act before another animals life is senselessly lost due to speed.
