Amador Tamayo for National Artist of Music of the Philippines

Amador Tamayo for National Artist of Music of the Philippines
The Issue
Mr. Amador Tamayo who sadly passed away on September 07, 2020 left a legacy in music that will be remembered for generations to come.
A legendary teacher of the cello, he was also the first and only luthier of the Philippines. His workshop located in Bulacan produced hundreds of world-class string instruments. His hand-crafted violins, violas and cellos are highly sought-after by prominent Filipino classical artists. His former cello students have become successful orchestral musicians internationally.
A graduate of Mathematics, he pursued a music career and became a respected concert cellist. An opportunity then came to study the art of string instrument making in Germany with Master luthier Schnorr.
The contribution he has made to the Philippine classical music industry is too great to be quantified. His humility and wit, paired with the passion and deep knowledge of music and instrument-making truly affords him a legendary stature.
He will be greatly missed by his many students and colleagues.
It was an absolute privilege to have known an outstanding human being.
A true Filipino.
I would like to request the honourable members of the Philippine government to please consider this request and bestow upon Mr. Amador Tamayo, the honour of National Artist for Music.
