This petition is about moving the Illinois Central 4-8-2 Mountain-Type #2500 from its current location in Centralia Park in Centralia, IL to its future home at the Nashville Steam Preservation Society in Nashville, TN (Same place where NC&STL 4-8-4 Dixie #576 is currently being restored to running condition). The reason why 2500 deserves a chance of running again is because we don’t have that many 4-8-2 Mountain types left in the USA. We have 14 in America and 5 in Canada with 4 had been an excursions and 1 scrapped in the USA which is IC #2613 in the fall of 1961. Also, there were no IC steam locomotive that have not operated in the preservation. So the 2500 would be the very first IC steam locomotive and 5th 4-8-2 Mountain-Type locomotive to return to service in the preservation era! So after the 576’s restoration is done, the NSPS should buy the 2500 for restoration so it can be selected for restoration to running condition to be a running mate with the 576! Make sure to please sign this petition so it will be delivered to the Nashville Steam Preservation Society at 220 Willow St, Nashville, TN 37210
