With all due respect, we would like to bring attention of the authorities to the inordinate delay of NH-55 highway reconstruction and 4-lane expansion work between Cuttack and Sambalpur in Odisha, resulting in a huge public inconvenience and loss of life.

Because of tardy and traffic insensitive construction works:
A. NH-55 road is strewn with thousands of potholes & puddles and is not in a motorable condition at several stretches, especially in rainy seasons. Unplanned segment-based constructions, unfinished bridges and frequent traffic diversions lead to congestions and fatal accidents.

B. Taxpayers and commuters have also incurred heavy cumulative losses notably extra petrol consumption, extra travel times spent, vehicle damages, financial loss to small road side vendors and indirectly project-cost overrun.

To highlight this issue, many people have raised voices at public forums and several complaints are also filed at different institutions without any visible results. Many factual questions are also raised like: Why to start work of the busiest road in the industrial corridor before land acquisitions are complete? Why bridges/overpasses are incomplete even after deadlines passed?

Without taking ownership and full responsibility, agencies pass faults among each others, as several institutions are involved in this project. Commuter sufferings are huge and still continuing, weakening public trust and tolerance in administrative institutions.

We, the signatories below sincerely request authorities to coordinate, accelerate and complete expansion work within next 6-8 months preferably before next monsoon season.
