Remove the bill board from Gilloolys Farm

Remove the bill board from Gilloolys Farm
The Issue
The framework of a commercial bill board of obscene proportions has being erected on Gilloolys Farm, Bedfordview, Gauteng, South Africa. This is a public park which adjoins the nature reserve of the Linksfield Ridge. Besides detracting from the natural beauty and vistas of the area, we the undersigned believe this in an invasion of the public space, a violation of the ethics of public spaces, an infringement of public rights, and should not have been permitted. We do not believe the Ekurhuleni Metro has the right to commercialise public parks and spaces in this way. We call on the Mayor of Ekurhuleni, Mondli Gungubele to rescind this decision and order its immediate removal.
We believe this has been done for short-term financial gain, and is not in the long term interests of the regions citizens, ratepayers and visitors. Ultimately, this eyesore considerably depreciates this public asset.
This situation is further aggravated by the decline of the facilities in the park over the last 10+ years. This includes the lack of maintenance in general, such as paths and walkways, invasive vegetation and fowl not being kept in check. There is also a significant security problem which has not been addressed, all of which are rendering large parts of the park unusable.
