*VIDEO WARNING* EXTREME VIOLENCE
On January 18, 2016, police officer Philip Brailsford from Mesa County’s Police Department shot unarmed Daniel Leetin Shaver in the hallway of La Quinta Inn & Suites in Mesa, Arizona. Philip Brailsford, the officer who shot Daniel shaver was trialed for second degree murder was found not-guilty. Daniel Shaver was working as a pest control specialist and traveled to Arizona for a business trip. As Daniel was in his room, he put his pellet gun (that he used for work) near the window. Police were sent after a someone reported of Daniel having access to a firearm. (having seen it brandished by the window) Police arrived at the hotel around 9:20 and ordered both Daniel Shaver and Monique Portillo out of the room. Officer Brailsford and 5 other officers pointed guns as they gave them orders for several minutes. Shaver and Portillo were both on the ground, hands and feet flat. then ordered Shaver, who was lying flat on the ground, to cross his legs. Later, he ordered Shaver to push himself "up to a kneeling position". While complying with the order to kneel, Shaver uncrossed his legs and Langley shouted at Shaver to keep his legs crossed. Startled and in fear, Shaver put his hands behind his back and was again warned by Langley to keep his hands in the air. Langley yelled at Shaver that if he didn’t comply from his police instructions again, they would shoot him. Sergeant Langley told Shaver not to put his hands down. Shaver said, "Please don't shoot me". After ordered to crawl forward, Shaver put his hands down and crawled on all fours. While crawling towards the officers, Shaver paused and moved his right hand towards his waistband. Officer Philip Brailsford, who later testified he believed that Shaver was reaching for a weapon, then opened fire with his AR-15 rifle, shooting Shaver five times and killing him instantly. Shaver was unarmed, and may have been preventing his shorts from falling down. An autopsy report found that Shaver was intoxicated, with a blood-alcohol level over three times the legal driving limit, which police claimed that it may have contributed to his confused response to their commands. “Shaver's wife requested that the Mesa Police Department release bodycam footage of the event. The request for the bodycam footage was initially refused. In a recording released by Shaver's wife, purportedly of a meeting between her and Maricopa County prosecutors, she was told that she could watch the video only if she agreed not to discuss its contents with the press.” ( Both Paragraphs sourced from Wikipedia and the police cam footage) Four months after the shooting of Daniel Shaver, Charles Langley, the officer who gave Shaver orders, retired from the department. In December 2017, Langley emigrated to the Philippines. Brailsford's trial for second-degree murder was scheduled in February 2017. On February 10, Maricopa County Superior Court Judge George Foster rescheduled the trial for October 23, 2017. Brailsford would face up to 25 years in prison if found guilty of the second-degree murder of Daniel Leetin Shaver. Officer Philip Brailsford was not found guilty and was acquired from all charges. Philip Brailsford is a murderer who shot innocent Daniel Shaver who owned a pellet gun for his job. Daniel Shaver needs justice. Video of the shooting is linked above.
