No more school uniforms: promote individuality and comfort at school.
The Issue
The Marches School has had the same old boring school Uniforms for too long. Not only are the uncomfortable but they strip students of individuality. We aren’t even allowed certain coats and bags. Lots off students in my year were put in isolation due to the wrong shoes, coat or uniform on the first day off school. This wastes time. In the morning we are made to line up like prison inmates and our uniforms are checked. The school has become a grey place. 90% of schools in the UK have uniforms. I think this is a real shame for many reasons:
reason 1- the first and most important reason is that it takes away individuality. Teenagers use clothes as a way to express themselves and with school uniforms they can’t do that. It makes the school colourless with no personality.
reason 2- they are uncomfortable. This is a complaint I here from my class mates quite a lot. We have to wear stiff collars and ties and Stiff trousers or skirts. It would make a more comfortable work environment if we were allowed to wear our own choice of clothing.
reason 3- they are expensive. My family had to spend at least £200 on my school Uniform in year seven.
reason 4- they make students feel insecure. Placing students in the same uniforms can make them feel like it allows for a lot of comparison. some one who insecure about themselves would probably prefer to wear something they feel comfortable in.
The challenges of no school Uniforms and my solutions:
one of the main reasons schools have uniforms is to make the students feel equal. This means that some students may feel ashamed if they do not have the same brands as everyone else. To stop this from occurring I think on the dress code there should be a ban on visible logos. Some People say that school Uniforms impact on behaviour. This has not been proven. But I think instead of trying to force students to wear the same thing they should work on the behaviour policy if this is a problem. When we used to have non school Uniform days students would appear more relaxed and comfortable, not more disobedient.
if I win this petition I will make sure that the students of the marches School are able to wear their own clothes but with a dress code. Thank you for your time. If you agree, help by signing this petition.
