Allowing free access of guide dogs for the visually impaired in Malaysia

Allowing free access of guide dogs for the visually impaired in Malaysia
The Issue
SOS Missions Berhad (SOSM) is a non-profit organisation in hopes of helping those with disabilities and vision disability, regardless of race, gender, age or religion. Previously, SOS Missions Berhad had kick started a Public Signature and Likes Campaign to support its initiative to Dialogue with the Government. This effort is in hopes to allow the easy accessibility of guide dogs for the visually impaired in Malaysia.
The students from Tunku Abdul Rahman University College (TAR UC), studying in Year 2 Bachelors Degree of Public Relations (Hons) are given the opportunity to organise a 3-days campaign in collaboration with Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia. Dialogue in the Dark Malaysia is operated by DID MY Academy Sdn Bhd that engages and equips all forms of disabilities and medical challenges with all the relevant skills needed. Hence, this campaign aspires to shed lights on issues such as restrictions or limitations to owning guide dogs as well as the abuse and misuse of their facilities in hopes of revising policies instrumental in improving their well-being in this country.
The very first guide dog in Malaysia, Lashawn, was given to its blind owner Mr. Stevens Chan, the founder of SOS Missions Berhad who have initiated the Dogs for Sight Movement, in 2014. Lashawn is a very well trained dog and have undergone strict coaching in China at the Nanjing Working Dogs Association since 2012. Unfortunately, there were many obstacles and challenges ever since their return to Malaysia, both Mr. Stevens Chan and Lashawn have challenges for opportunities to Dialogue with the previous government, despite their many attempts, in regards to the accessibility issues.
However, both Mr. Stevens Chan and Lashawn has not given up hope in fighting for their rights and the rights of many others to have equally fair opportunities at living a more comfortable life. Therefore, the launch of this campaign is in hopes to attain 5000 more signatures that will be presented to the Deputy Prime Minister and the Minister of Women and Community Affairs for the kind consideration to meet with Mr. Stevens Chan and Lashawn for a Dialogue. This Dialogue hopes it would lead to the necessary amendments to the Disabilities Act to allow Guide Dogs and their Blind Owners access to travel anywhere in Malaysia that can change many lives who are deserving to have the freedom and independence despite all their disability in our country. We hope that the future is socially inclusive and acceptive towards the guide dogs and the visually impaired.
