The Media Industry needs to stop sexualizing, objectifying and disempowering women now! The media is a powerful messenger and is shaping our society. We need to recognize that the influx in eating disorders, domestic violence, rape, sexually transmitted diseases and suicides at such an early age is due to the media’s representation of us, as Americans. It’s time to realize that sexualizing and objectifying our women is no longer an original idea, it’s no longer fresh and it has taken a huge toll on our society. Our American youth spend an average of 10 ½ hours on media consumption in one day. And our American women and girls are constantly being told that their worth is based upon their personal appearance, materialism and sex. This is toxic and needs to stop! The media needs to start focusing on a woman’s intellect, achievement, individuality and inventiveness. Start saying ‘NO’ to the toxic representations and urge the media to give women a proper voice.
