To improve the traffic flow around Apex Corner for the benefit of local residents in general and for the benefit of drivers using Selvage Lane in particular.
The Issue
Please empower your local Hale Ward representatives, Hugh Rayner and Tom Davey together with Elliot Simberg, to lobby the Mayor of London and his Roads Task Force to improve the traffic situation at Apex Corner by signing our petition.
Apex Corner is difficult at any time of the day but a nightmare during school run times and at rush hour. Traffic backs up along Selvage Lane into Deans Lane and Hale Lane and surrounding residential roads. Life becomes impossible for drivers and residents alike!
The present traffic light phasing at Apex Corner does not give traffic coming out of Selvage Lane sufficient time to join the roundabout safely, especially drivers intending to travel north up the A1. Re-phasing of the existing lights, maybe even new lights at Selvage Lane, could be the answer!
Your local Hale Ward Councillors have been trying to get something done about this for ages, including raising it at the Hendon Area Environment Sub Committee in June 2013, asking Council traffic officers to take the matter up with TfL. Indeed they have lobbied TfL directly - Leon Daniels, Managing Director, Surface Transport – but the answer has always been that priority must be given to the major roads like the A1 and A41 - not to side roads like Selvage Lane.
We were therefore disappointed when Roads Task Force, set up by the London Mayor in 2012, did not include improvements to Apex Corner in their recent spending announcements!
