The Lesedi Local Municipality in Heidelberg, Sedibeng, Gauteng, South Africa proposes to increase the tariff of 2021/22. Electricity will increase by 14.59%, Water will increase by 5.8%, Refuse will increase by 3.9%, Sewerage will increase by 3.9%, Property rates will increase by 3.9%, other income will increase by 3.9% & Rentals will increase by 10%

The people of Heidelberg can not approve of this implementation because there is no growth in our economy to sustain this implementation, instead the population & unemployment rate are increasing rapidly annually. The municipality has failed to deliver services accordingly to its rightful stakeholders, the streets are always dark at night but the street lights operate during the day when the light is not required of service.

Ward10 (Bergsig) was established years before these developing areas such as extension 23 but until this very day it doesn’t have a community hall or a well equipped park which is child friendly & the people of Bergsig are major contributors of the rates & taxes! 

The municipality fails to address & to provide relevant information to its rightful stakeholders. A lot of illegal implementation of tenders have been happening without the knowledge of the public & the municipality has failed to empower 10000 out of 100000 civilians with educational or business opportunities for the past 5years!

It is time for us as Lesedi to start buying our electricity & water directly from Eskom & Rand Water & cut out the municipality as a middle man. It is very vital that we implement & sign this petition because there is absolutely no one in the interest of the community besides the community itself. 

The municipality has various shady methods of receiving money, there are specific accounts we pay as the people but the municipality can’t account for. I urge all tax & rate payers of Heidelberg to say no to the increase of tariff!
