More than 70 years after the Korean War ceased hostilities, the war has never formally ended.

The 1953 Armistice ended the fighting, but it did not establish peace.  The Korean Peninsula remains divided under an unfinished war.

We believe it is time to take a peaceful step forward.

An End-of-War Declaration would not replace a peace treaty or resolve every security issue.  It would be an important political commitment to pursue dialogue, reduce tensions, and begin negotiations towards a lasting peace agreement.

Australia has a proud and enduring connection to Korea.  More than 17,000 Australians served during the Korean War under the United Nations Command.  Honouring their service includes supporting efforts for a peaceful future on the Korean Peninsula.

We, the undersigned, therefore, call for:

1. An End-of-War Declaration bringing the Korean War to a political conclusion through peaceful means;
2. Renewed dialogue and diplomacy to reduce military tensions and rebuild trust;
3. Negotiations towards a lasting peace agreement and permanent peace framework to move beyond the armistice; and
4. Constructive support from Australia and the international community for reconciliation and peaceful coexistence on the Korean Peninsula 

It asks people to support the universal principles of peace, dialogue, reconciliation, and the hope that future generations may live without the continuing legacy of an unfinished war.

More than 70 years is long enough for a temporary armistice.
