I thought that this issue must be dealt with immediately because coming into the present day more and more sexual crimes are happening. It is appalling that not only these crimes are increasing but the punishment these criminals are sentenced to is embarrassing. There are many injustices that we must fix in today's world but the lenient punishment that courts sentence in Korea must be changed urgently. The reason behind this is, other injustices correlate with this topic. For instance, the victims of sex crimes are mostly women. In child pornography the majority of the people who are getting filmed are women. The victims of hidden cameras are mostly women. This issue is also urgent because in court, victims are very hesitant to tell the true story of the crime they have dealt with because of the strict defamation laws in Korea. In fact, offenders sue their victims for defaming their reputation. In some cases the victim gets a stricter sentence than their abuser. Overall, in the topic of sex crimes there are many correlated issues and many factors that must be fixed. This makes victims feel hopeless because there is a punishment for reaching out for help. As a result, if there are development in laws regarding sex crimes, other injustices surrounding sex crimes will be solved quickly and more efficiently.
