The Issue
Petition to Address Abuse of Authority by Professor Tillery (or Dr. Eishelle Hargrave-Tillery) at John Jay College.
We, the undersigned members of the John Jay College community, are deeply concerned about the abuse of authority exhibited by Professor Tillery. It has come to our attention that Professor Tillery has been consistently overstepping her boundaries and misusing her position of power.
Instances of abuse of authority include
- Unfair Grading Practices: Multiple complaints have surfaced regarding unfair grading practices, with students receiving grades without constructive feedback or the chance to enhance their assignments.
Lack of Accountability: Despite numerous complaints lodged against her, there has been a notable lack of accountability and corrective action taken by the professor. She consistently fails to make assignments available until the due date without informing the class. Furthermore, she denies students opportunities to revise or resubmit assignments.
We, therefore, call upon the administration of John Jay College to take immediate action to address these concerns. Specifically, we demand:
1. A thorough investigation into the allegations against Professor Tillery to ensure transparency and accountability.
2. Implementation of measures to prevent future abuse of authority, including training on professional conduct and ethical standards for all faculty members.
3. Support for affected students, including opportunities for recourse and redress for any unfair treatment experienced.
4. Regular monitoring and evaluation of faculty behavior to uphold the values of integrity and fairness within the academic community.
We believe addressing these issues is crucial to maintaining a safe and inclusive learning environment at John Jay College. By signing this petition, we stand together in solidarity to advocate for positive change and uphold the principles of academic integrity and respect.

If additional support is not provided to students, we will escalate the matter by filing a report with the City University of New York Office of the General Counsel.
