To give students at TISB gender-inclusive dress codes and a choice to express themselves
Gender Neutral Dress Code for TISB
TISB is a school renown for its progressive attitude towards today’s society. We have a modern style of teaching and an increasingly accepting community. However, we have identified a problem that may hinder progress towards true inclusivity at our institution – gender-biased dress codes.
Many of the students who are advocating for this petition often feel confined by the rigid standards of the current school uniform. Forcing us to follow this dress code makes us feel uncomfortable, especially those of us who are a part of the gender queer and trans community.
At TISB, we believe that aligning with archaic ideologies of dress codes is at best unnecessary, and at worst harmful. TISB’s mindset is progressive and inclusive enough to set an example by formulating gender-neutral dress codes for all.
Therefore, we request that the formal and PE uniform should be changed to allow students of any gender to wear the same clothing in accordance with their comfort and preferences. Additionally, students, regardless of gender, should be allowed to maintain any hair length, as long as they can present it in a neat fashion. We believe that this would go a long way to increase the inclusivity of the dress code and the comfort of the students studying at this school.
