Protect Cats! TICA Must Change.

Protect Cats! TICA Must Change.
The Issue
Every year 3.4 million cats enter shelters, and 1.4 million cats are euthanized due to overcrowding or imperfect health. Many cats are euthanized even if they have treatable conditions, to save shelter costs. Thousands of purebred cats come to shelters directly from unethical breeders; they are often not fixed, given shots and they often have health issues.
As the premier registering service for pure bred cats TICA enjoys reputation and confers reputation on catteries that register their cats. This offers TICA influence in the Feline World. Unfortunately, TICA refuse to hold their breeders to any ethical standards, thus participating in the horrors of abused, neglected and euthanized cats in shelters.
It is time we hold breeders and TICA responsible for their impact in the feline world!
We demand TICA participate in keeping cats safe by:
- Establish a code of ethics that all breeders registering cats must sign.
- Require cats not destined for breeding programs to be spayed or neutered before leaving the breeder.
- Require all breeders to only sell all their cats on written contracts.
- Require all breeders to offer veterinary care to cats that need it.
- TICA must participate in rescue efforts of pure bred cats, by setting aside a significant percentage of their income to directly assist in rescue efforts.
- If TICA find it necessary to increase fees to do any of this, then that is what they must do.
- To establish a complaint process against breeders that do not follow these guidelines, and be willing to exclude their cats from registration.
- Make certain catteries have access to training to live up to these demands
