Stop Coral Bleaching in the Great Barrier Reef!

The issue

The Great Barrier Reef is a global treasure and coral bleaching is destroying one of the Earth's greatest treasures. Coral Bleaching occurs when sea temperatures change rapidly and heat to the point that zooxanthellae (An algae particle that gives coral its colour) cannot grow in the coral and forces it to lose its colour. You may be asking yourself "Why does bleached coral matter?", well when coral loses its colour, it dies. By allowing Coral Bleaching to just get worse every year, we would have lost the reef by 2047. That is only 27 years away! Would you want your children or Grand-children living in a world that used to have beautiful coral and fish instead of plastic and pollution?

By signing this petition you are helping to make a huge change and help the reef for the better. This petitions purpose is to work towards controlling the amount of visitors the reef has every year. This will also help limit the amount of sunscreen enters the ocean every year. Experts say that 5-7 tonnes of sunscreen enter the ocean annually. This can help the coral because sunscreen has a toxic chemical in it that damages colouring in coral. Helping the reef will also amount to make a larger impact on Global Warming. So help to make a positive difference and get this petition to 100 signatures!
