Tax Equity for NSW Casual Teachers

The issue

NSW Department of Education Casual Teachers are currently taxed under an 'Adjustment' system, where our fortnightly tax percentage varies from fortnight to fortnight, regardless of the Gross amount earned.  In some instances, the tax deducted exceeds 50%, which is the top Australian Tax bracket! This makes it impossible for individuals and families to budget, and in some cases, obtain mortgages or credit. This system cripples single income families as they don't know from pay day to pay day, what their take home pay will be.  This system is creating financial hardship for many Casual Teachers, and the associated stress is having a profound effect, in family homes and in classrooms.  We are asking that NSW Department of Education Casual Teacher's pay and tax be brought into line with NSW Department of Education permanent staff, to allow for fair and equitable  tax deductions for NSW Department of Education Casual Teachers. We want to be taxed fairly and consistently on our Gross income, to allow us the financial security we deserve.
