With a significant amount of increased construction and commuter traffic, cars consistently stopping in dangerous zones and an ongoing disregard for road speed, the Johnston St pedestrian crossing in front of ANPS is critically in need of a safety upgrade.

The P&C has been lobbying the Local Council and State Government for many years providing numerous suggestions and proposals to improve the safety of the crossing. These suggestions include:

• A permanent Crossing Supervisor to assist children and increase visibility (per the recent appointment for Annandale Public School).
• Widening the footpath (curb extension) either side of the crossing
• Improved fencing to ensure children cross in the right area
• Adding traffic management barriers to ensure stopped cars are not blocking access or visibility
• Fixing the gutters and drains that cause large pools of water blocking access to the crossing.

Now is the time for action. We call on the NSW Minister to approve funding for these critical safety improvements by approving funding for Project ID 587439012 within the 2020/2021 NSW Active Transport Program.
