Guardian readers for Jeremy Corbyn
The Issue
The Guardian has chosen to support Yvette Cooper, arguing she is best placed to unite the Labour Party and lead it into the next election. We, as readers, disagree.
Jeremy Corbyn offers a genuine alternative in Labour’s leadership contest. His straightforward style, anti-austerity politics, and believable promise of wholehearted opposition to destructive Tory policies have attracted and inspired a diverse base of supporters.
Many of us believe he’s Labour’s best chance, not its worst: that Labour will only win by persuading voters that the cuts the Tories make are unnecessary and unfair, not by offering a lighter shade of them. Many more think Labour needs the passion he’s inspired, and that only he has a chance of winning back those we lost this May and before.
We want our paper to know who we support, and that even its best efforts couldn’t persuade us: our hearts and heads agree on a vote for Corbyn.
