Get rid of the BSL law currently in place in Fairborn OH
Get rid of the BSL law currently in place in Fairborn OH
The Issue
BSL (BREED SPECIFIC LEGISLATION)causes the death of thousands of innocent dogs. This community is intended to stop the alarming spread of BSL.
THEY CAN COME INTO YOUR HOMETOWN AND TAKE YOUR INNOCENT DOG FOR NO REASON CAUSE OF WHAT THEY BELIEVE IN. THE MOST TARGETED ANIMALS ARE THE PITBULL.
It’s the canine equivalent of racial profiling. And it’s quite scary. It started off with pit bull-looking dogs, and in some places it now even includes Labs and golden retrievers!
And when these bills are passed, who gets targeted the most? Answer: responsible, law-abiding families who have registered their pets and have their breed on record.
Yes, there are some dangerous dogs out there. But it has nothing to do with which breed they are, and everything to do with how they’ve been bred and how they’ve been trained. The Michael Vick dogs were rehabilitated and are now loving parts of families.
WE MUST STOP BSL FROM HAVING OUR PETS DESTROYED. THESE ARE OUR CHILDREN, THEY GIVE US UNCONDITIONAL LOVE.
HOW WOULD THEY LIKE IT IF SOMEONE CAME TO THEIR HOME AND TOOK THEIR CHILDREN AWAY AND HAD THEM PUT IN FOSTER CARE OR HAVE THEM KILLED JUST BECAUSE OF THE WAY THEY LOOK AND WHAT THEY HEARD ABOUT THEM. THIS IS NOT RIGHT.
REMEMBER YOU CAN BE THE VOICE.
Effective May 22, 2012 the state of Ohio no longer defines a "breed of dog commonly known as a pit bull" as a vicious dog.
However, any dog may be designated as vicious, dangerous or a nuisance based on its actions. Any law enforcement officer, dog warden or animal control officer may make this designation. If your dog is designated as dangerous or vicious, you must comply with the following special requirements.
STOP THE IGNORANCE!!!!!
THE LAW AS IT STANDS IN FAIRBORN OHIO STATES:
OH- City of Fairborn to enforce the ban on pit bulls
Fairborn Enforces No Pit Bull Ordinance
The ordinance banning pit bulls from the city of Fairborn passed in May 2008 and now city officials have decided to enforce it. In an interview posted on the WHIOTV.com website, City Manager Deborah McDonnell said, "We are asking residents to move the dogs to other locations and find other homes for them."
The city plans to begin the enforcement process by mailing letters to residents who own pit bulls letting them know about the ordinance.
The ordinance defines a pit bull as:
A. an American Pet Bull Terrier;
B. an American Staffordshire Terrier;
C. is an Staffordshire Bull Terrier;
D. displays the majority of physical traits of any one (1) or more of the above breeds;
E. is of mixed breed or of other breed than listed above which breed or mixed breed is know as A pit bull, pit bull dog or pit bull terrier; or
F. exhibits those distinguishing charachterists which substantially conform to the standards established by the American Kennel Club or United Kennel Club for pit bull dogs or pit bull teriiers.
This same city ordinance (#1171.06, I) states that 5 dogs or cats constitues a kennel and shall be regulated as permitted within the zoning districts specified. This is not 5 INTACT dogs or cats- this is 5 total!!
Being as the state of Ohio has done away with the BSL laws that were in place and decided that no breed of dog be banished strictly for thier breed we are asking Fairborn to have the same intelagence. Under the new Ohio law Pitbulls are no longer classified as a vicious breed of dog.
