By now you should know some of the effects that plastics have on the environment, but let's look specifically at plastic pollution. Plastic pollution causes harm to humans, animals and plants through toxic pollutants. It can take hundreds or even thousands of years for plastic to break down so the environmental damage is long-lasting. It affects all organisms in the food chain from tiny species like plankton through to whales. Toxins work their way up the food chain when plastic is ingested and can even be present in the fish people eat.

Plastic has many negative effects on our environment and it's production and use have to be reduced. Plastics are widely used in Zambia. And we have seen the negative effects of plastics, some of which are:
                 • Clogged Sewer Systems
                 • Aesthetic Deteroriation
                 • Animal Harm
And many other negative effects.

Plastic production and use must be reduced and the first step we can take to achieve this goal is by banning production and use of plastic bags completely. The government of Zambia should set up laws that make production of plastic bags illegal. Plastic bags are harmful to the environment and we could live our normal lives without them.
