Rename the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.

Rename the Churchill Roosevelt Highway.
The Issue
Winston Churchill is known as one of the most significant people to live in the 20th century. He held many accolades; consummate empire builder, soldier, adventurer, author and journalist. He also fought back at Hitler and stopped the Nazis. Indeed he has been honoured around the world for his great works.
He also believed that white people were most superior and black people the least. He advocated against black or indigenous self rule. He prioritized stockpiling of food for Europeans and left Indian people to suffer during the Bengal famine of 1943. He called Afghans and Iraqis “uncivilized tribes”. He once explicitly told his Secretary of State for India that he hated Indians. He considered them a beastly people with a beastly religion. The reason he left them to starve during the Bengal famine was because they “breed like rabbits” as to ascertain that relief efforts would accomplish nothing. As a result, three million Indians died.
Trinbagonians have too long been known for sitting idly by and allowing things to happen that negatively affect us as a people. The current climate calls for us to band together against the prejudices that have been perpetuated both in our Twin Island State, and around the world. We believe that memorialization of such a controversial individual in history only serves as a monumental slap in the face to our multicultural society and a reminder of the way he used his privilege, power and influence to cause untold misery and atrocities on non-white nations.
The highway was named after Churchill and Roosevelt, two wartime leaders during World War II as an access road for US armed forces but was turned over to the Government of Trinidad and Tobago on October 24th, 1949. We call for this highway to be rightly used to honour one of Trinidad and Tobago's many distinguished individuals across its very rich history.
