The 2011 census carried out by the UK government revealed that 5.02% of England's population were Muslim. It is undisputed that Muslims have been a peaceful ever growing minority for years now and I feel it would be appropriate to represent them in our nation flag by adding Muslim symbolism.

England is a very diverse country where people from all backgrounds and religions are able to live in harmony. My proposition is to introduce an alternative flag as an option, containing the popular 'star and crescent' symbol to represent Islam. I think it is time to finally appreciate the Muslim and ethnic minorities that have long been part of this diverse society. We need to give Muslims a sense of belonging by appreciating their ever growing, peaceful community. We need to be a beacon of light for the growing Muslim population of Europe.
