Enforce the Abatement of Litter Act 2015 to ensure that 'Pure Grenada' is a reality

Enforce the Abatement of Litter Act 2015 to ensure that 'Pure Grenada' is a reality
The Issue
We are calling upon the government of Grenada to enforce the Abatement of Litter Act 2015 to ensure that 'Pure Grenada' is a reality.
1. By taking a public stand against littering
2. By appointing sufficient number of additional litter wardens
3. By issuing enforcement officers with the penalty notices they need to do the job
The Abatement of Littler Act 2015 at a Glance
1. Litter mean any solid or liquid material or product or combination of solid or liquid materials or products i.e.
Bottles, tins, sawdust, derelict vehicles, packing materials (cartons, packages), paper glass, food, animal remains, garbage, debris, sand, gravel, aggregate, dirt , animal and human waste... and any unwanted surplus substance that the Minister may designate as litter.
2. Any littering is liable to a fixed penalty of $100 for the first offence, double for a second offence within one year. If it goes to court, the penalty rises to $300-$1500, and or six months imprisonment.
3. Any 'body corporate' (i.e. business) littering or dumping is liable to a penalty of $500. If it goes to court, then the penalty becomes $1500-$4500
4. If litter is thrown out of a vehicle (including a bus), and if the person throwing the litter cannot be identified, then the driver or registered owner of the vehicle is held responsible.
5. "Enforcement Officers" are the police, traffic wardens, public health inspectors and forestry officers. There is provision for the Minister to appoint additional individuals as litter wardens.
We invite you to join us in petitioning the Government to implement the Abatement of Litter Act 2015 without further delay:
-by issuing enforcement officers with the penalty notices they need to do their jobs;
-by appointing additional litter wardens;
-and by taking a personal public stand against littering
Thank you! You are contributing to keeping Grenada 'Pure'.
