Every year, during festivities such as Independence Celebration, Diwali, Christmas and New Year's, Guyanese celebrate with a wide array of explosives, such as fireworks, fire crackers, and squibs. The use of explosives are extremely detrimental to many animal species, such as dogs, cats, rabbits, horses, and birds. The sensitive hearing organs of many animals can have permanent damage from various explosives  ranging from 85-190 db. The noise can cause extreme anxiety, fear, panic, permanent damage to the ears and can even result in death, for prey animals such as rabbits. The effects are also very devastating for birds , as the loud noise can cause disorientation, which may result in birds crashing into buildings and other objects. Many birds also die from poisoning, as the debris from explosives which pollute the air can kill many birds when ingested. Most animals species have far superior hearing than humans, however, what they do not have is the ability to comprehend what is happening around them when they hear the loud boom of a fire cracker. Every display of beautiful fireworks in the night sky, comes at the cost of an animal suffering, or at the cost of its life. No celebration should be worth the life of an animal. Vow today and always to never celebrate with the use of explosives, do it for our environment, do it for our animals! Especially for the stray dogs and cats who may not have anyone to comfort them through the fear and panic they may feel.

By signing this petition it is our hopes that there will be a more rigorous enforcement of Guyana's ban on pyrotechnics and certain types of explosives.
