Save the Vaquitas

Save the Vaquitas
The Issue
Have you ever heard of a Vaquita? In case you haven’t, they are a very small type of dolphin. They only live in the northern part of the Gulf of California in Mexico. Are you aware that there are only around ten left in the entire world? They have been listed as endangered since 1985. The only way to save them is for the government to stamp out the illegal totoaba poaching and trade and remove all nets from the Vaquitas' home. That is the only way. Maybe safely relocate them to a protected facility where they will be well taken care of until they get back on their feet. I also think the area they live in should be protected, and believe me, that isn’t a big area to protect. The Vaquita has the smallest geographical range of any marine mammal. As I said earlier, it only lives in the Gulf of California in Mexico. The main threats to them are us, humans. Netting and illegal poaching has slowly brought their numbers down to barely anything. Also, once someone took a Vaquita out of the water to take a picture for social media. In doing so, they killed the Vaquita. A complete waste of a beautiful creature. I know a lot of the environment needs saving, but we have to start somewhere. And saving the Vaquitas, it is a great place to start. I don’t know how hard putting the rules to save them in place will be, but we know you can do it. An entire species is on the line here. Every time a species goes extinct, it disrupts the entire eco-system. If we don’t do anything, people as near as one generation from now will not have the chance to know what they are. Vaquitas will be, like so many, completely forgotten. And the reason they will be forgotten, the reason they went extinct, is because of humans. Humans killed them, our species did that. It is only fair that we try to fix what we have done. Imagine if we went extinct, we are a species just like them, we just want to survive. The difference is that we have more power than the Vaquitas, and we can either use that power to save and restore them, or just not care. And I know that there are people who care with a passion. Think about it, we have a chance to save an entire species! We have the power to make sure an entire species doesn’t go extinct! The Vaquitas would thank you because we could be their savior. It isn't too late to save them, we can still do something! ! I hope this will inspire other people to try harder to save the environment. If we could save them, that would be a big deal, a colossal deal. That really matters, we would be saving the world, one species at a time. Again, the only way to save them is for the government to stamp out the illegal totoaba poaching and trade and remove all nets from the Vaquitas' home. And possibly protect the area they live in, and that area is very small. At this point, I believe you have all the facts. Now all I can say is please, please save the Vaquitas. I like to think that I speak for those who don’t have a voice, and in this case, I speak for the Vaquitas. And I hope you hear my voice, hear their needs. An entire species is about to die, so please do something. Please do something, anything will help. But doing nothing will make it so much worse.
