The Glen Gardner Quarry (Vulcan Materials) Seeks to Expand Blasting and Processing in Town
The Issue
PLEASE NOTE, It has been brought to my attention that the term expansion could be misleading in what the quarry is requesting. They are requesting a setback variance to move the processiing equipment into an existing setback area so they can mine (blast) in the location where the processing equipment is now located.
Vulcan Materials is campaigning to receive a variance to existing setbacks, which would allow them to carry out expanded blasting and processing activities in the town of Glen Gardner. This proposed expansion is a cause for significant alarm among the residents, as it threatens the peace and safety of our community. We call upon you to join us in our efforts to halt this expansion by signing this petition, urging the Glen Gardner Council and Planning Board to oppose Vulcan Materials' request.
The expanded blasting operations proposed by Vulcan Materials pose several risks to our community. Increased blasting can lead to more frequent noise disruptions, potentially damaging properties and negatively affecting the well-being of residents. Not to mention the environmental repercussions, including potential contamination of local water resources and habitat destruction, which may follow suit as a result of intensified quarrying activities.
Moreover, with the expansion comes an increase in air pollution due to dust and emissions from processing activities, which pose significant health risks to residents, particularly children and the elderly who are most vulnerable to respiratory issues.
We understand the need for economic growth and support businesses that can harmonize such growth with community welfare and environment conservation. However, allowing this variance would set a concerning precedent, whereby industrial actions overshadow the safety and quality of life for Glen Gardner's community members.
The Glen Gardner Council and Planning Board have an opportunity to stand with their community by voting against this proposal. By doing so, they will protect not only the immediate interests and health of residents but also uphold the long-term sustainability and integrity of our town.
Time is critical as the second and decisive meeting will take place on December 16th at 7 pm. We urge every concerned resident and supporter of community and environmental integrity to make their voice heard. Let us remind the Glen Gardner Council and Planning Board that our voices matter.
Please join us by signing this petition to protect Glen Gardner from the potential negative impacts of Vulcan Materials' proposed expansion. Every signature counts towards safeguarding our community's future.
PLEASE NOTE, THERE IS NO DONATION REQUEST ASSOCIATED WITH THIS PETITION, FUNDRAISING IS FOR CHANGE.ORG ONLY.
PLEASE NOTE, It has been brought to my attention that the term expansion could be misleading in what the quarry is requesting. They are requesting a setback variance to move the processiing equipment into an existing setback area so they can mine in the location where the processing equipment is now located.
