Suspend Dr. Mahendra Amin's Medical License Immediately

The Issue

Migrant women held by ICE in Georgia are alleged to have been forcibly sterilized by Dr. Mahendra Amin. Nurse Dawn Wooten has bravely shared her horrifying testimony and Georgia must, at the least, suspend Dr. Amin's license to practice while investigating him and revoke it entirely if proven guilty.

Dr. Mahendra Amin has broken with established ethical guidelines for medical professionals. Per the complaint, he has done irrevocable harm by conducting unnecessary hysterectomies and sterilization procedures on detainees without their consent and sometimes without their knowledge or understanding, due to the language barrier and miscommunication of procedures. He was known as "the uterus collector" by staff for the disturbingly high number of hysterectomies and sterilizations he is purported to have performed.

In addition to his current clinical misconduct allegations, Dr. Amin already has an established record of criminal activity resulting in mismanaged care and diagnoses. In April 2015, Amin and other doctors were ordered by the U.S. Attorney for the Middle District of Georgia to pay more than $520,000 in fines after “allegations that they caused false claims to be submitted to Medicare and Medicaid.”

A full report on the allegations is available here on Prism: https://www.prismreports.org/article/2020/9/15/exclusive-georgia-doctor-who-forcibly-sterilized-detained-women-has-been-identified

Please help show the Georgia Composite Medical Board that Dr. Amin has broken the public trust and disobeyed the rule of "First, Do No Harm," and should be suspended from practicing medicine.
