The Gearagh: Ireland's Next National Park?

The Gearagh: Ireland's Next National Park?
The Issue
Green Party Macroom local election candidate Harriet Burgess and renowned Macroom-based ecologist Kevin Corcoran believe that the globally unique Gearagh river forest could make for an incredible addition to Ireland’s national parks.
In addition to this, designating the Gearagh a national park would contribute hugely to eco-tourism in the Macroom area.
Helping to restore our native forests, through designating the Gearagh as a national park, would further help preserve biodiversity and combat climate breakdown in the South of Ireland.
The Gearagh is a site of global importance for biodiversity. Formed during the Ice Age, the Gearagh river forest consists of a series of river islands, upon which incredible rare species live and thrive. It is one of the only inland river deltas in the world.
Please support our call for the Gearagh to be designated a national park by signing our online petition.
