Save France's Regional Languages and Cultures by ratifying the EU Charter for Regional and Minority Languages.

Save France's Regional Languages and Cultures by ratifying the EU Charter for Regional and Minority Languages.
The Issue
En Francais: il est une pétition au Sénat d'adopter la loi pour modifier la constitution pour permettre la ratification du Charte .
In 1992, France became one of the signatories to the European Union's Charter for Regional and Minority Languages. However, they are one of the very few countries to not ratify the charter.
France has a number of distinct cultural and linguistic regions which were annexed to France through past wars. Since the 19th - and especially during the 20th - century, France has forbidden the teaching of or the posting of signs in these regional languages or to conduct any official business in these languages. As a result, many of these languages are now on the verge of extinction and France stands to lose its cultural diversity forever. These are native languages of the people of these regions. They were not brought into France by immigrants.
Last year, the lower house of the Parliament voted to amend the French Constitution and the measure was sent over to the Senate, the upper chamber. However, to date the Senate has failed to act and the French President, Francois Hollande, is trying to motivate them to take action.
Your help is needed to show the French Senate that the international community is watching and expects France to live up to its motto of "Liberte, Egalite, Fraternite."
