Emergency Action Plan & Better Life caged animals at Johnsons Park - WE STILL NEED YOU!
Why this petition matters
URGENT UPDATE : The animals need your help now more then ever! The commissioners have gone against their word to closing the zoo and giving a better life to the animals, and have now decided to keep the animals inside the flood plain, while they hire an independent consultant to decide whether or not they should be moved out.
The consultants report would not be expected until the end of March 2022.
14 sanctuaries were promised animals & prepared for them. They were promised dates for their arrival repeatedly and delayed.
This is unacceptable, as the animals are in dire conditions with uninsulated shelters, living on dirt floors and many are pregnant or in bad health. The zoo has been known to flood at anytime of the year, and can even flood from a high river tide with no rainfall.
We made a change before, we can do it again! We just need to be a little louder ! Please help us CONTINUE to fight for a better life for these beautiful animals who were so close to living this cold winter in warm, safe sanctuaries - up until now.

Inside Johnson’s Park in Piscataway, New Jersey, different breeds of wild animals are kept for the public to see and feed, with no oversight or monitoring. There are alpacas, deer, a fox, pigs and more who are kept in close quarters that do not mimic their natural habitat, and it is clear that they have no safe space. There is no emergency action plan established for them to be moved during inclement weather, which was shown I the past with Hurricane Irene when some animals losing their lives, and more recently, hurricane that we saw this week. During Hurricane Ida, all the animals were trapped in their flooded enclosures, with no high ground, shelter, or a way to protect themselves. These animals should have been removed prior to the storm hitting.
When community members called, concerned about the safety of these animals, there was no response. I’m sure you could never imagine leaving your dog or cat or hamster outside during a hurricane, why are these animals any different?
To think these animals are in the care of people who clearly do not put their needs first, is frightening. They are scared & are not able to do what their instincts tell them to. These animals should be free, or in a farm, or a sanctuary. They deserve a better life, better caretakers, a safer, well cared for environment.
Let’s give them the homes they deserve
