Funding for health care for Indigenous women

The Issue

When looking at the history of Indigenous peoples in Canada, we see a great deal of discrimination and unfairness.  The abuse that this community faced in the past translates to intergenerational trauma that still affects them presently.  Indigenous women, amongst the entire Indigenous community, suffer the most.  Being subjected to so much sexual, emotional and physical abuse in the past, breaking such a cycle is extremely difficult.  Furthermore, living in marginalized, poor communities does not help the process of getting better.  Rather, such conditions can make the healing process worse.  To this day, Indigenous women are subject to sexual, emotional, physical, mental and domestic abuse, prostitution, trafficking, drug and alcohol abuse, poverty, and the list goes on.  Such is due to their long history of continued discrimination and abuse, but also to their lack of access to resources that can help and support them.

This petition's goal is to put pressure on the Canadian government to fund healthcare services for Indigenous women in order for them to get the professional help and support they need to improve their living conditions and live a full and happier life.
