For too long now arguably the best professional league in the world has failed with regard to the transparency of match officials’ decisions in-game. The standards have dropped and key decisions are being made incorrectly. VAR was meant to solve a lot of this, but arguably has made things worse. This needs to change to keep the integrity of the game and continue fan enjoyment and engagement.

Nobody in their right mind wants referees to be on the receiving end of death threats, there is no place for that. However idiots will continue to be idiots and as long as decisions are blatantly incorrect and aren’t rectified until days after the game, this will continue. 

I am recommending that The FA and The Premier League, use the Australian A-League style which is the same as that in Cricket and in Rugby, whereby the fans at home watching on TV, and possibly those in the stadium, can listen to the referee and his assistants, the 4th official, and the VAR consultants at Stockley Park, come to their decision and their reasoning behind it. Not only does this make things transparent and keep the integrity of the game, but it just makes plain sense. It would most certainly cut the abuse and allow an understanding from referees to fans and players alike. We just want to know “Why?” I don’t think it is acceptable that the biggest sport in the world is so far behind others and as one of the leaders of world football, we should be making the key changes.
