To STOP KILLING Deer and To make changes to Hunting Regulations

The Issue

“ Today, HUNTING is no longer a means of survival, but IS AN OUTDOOR SPORT. ”
-page 3, The East Hampton Town Hunting Regulations.

According to the International Hunter Eduction Association, approximately 1,000 people in the U.S and Canada are shot by hunters each year. Most victims are hunters but non-hunters like us are killed or injured. In 2008, a toddler got killed while she was in her house with her parents.

The local Animal shelter, ARF is warning their kind volunteers, most of which are young adults, not to walk the dogs in the nature trails to avoid hunters.
WHY do we have to GIVE UP on OUR RIGHTS to enjoy life for such dangerous sport?

Hunters may not be bothering you if you haven’t seen them in your backyard or heard shooting sounds in your house, but would you let your children or grandchildren play in your backyards? Would you feel safe to walk your dogs or jog in the nature trails if you see hunters in camouflage suits with shotguns there?
Some might think Bowhunting is ok, but many hunters just shoot deer and leave them in the cold field to die slowly in agony.. They are killing for fun or to decorate their walls with beautiful deer horns.. NO COMPASSION.

The Town Board might say that they even added weekends to kill more deer in order to reduce it’s population, but in my opinion, and many fellow animal lovers in the Hamptons, the beautiful and innocent deer have to eat someone’s trees or flowers to survive because we are taking their habitat. You might say that it’s to prevent lyme disease but studies show that not all deer ticks are infected with lyme disease. Why can’t we just put fences around the houses? In order to prevent car accidents, we just have to drive slowly. KILLING IS NOT RIGHT.

On top of this, the village of East Hampton Town Board has hired Animal killing Company White Buffalo Inc. to operate inhuman sterilization, paying $1,000/ deer along with money from the village Preservation Society to “Spay” them .
They tranquilize deer using dart guns, bring them to a tent to remove their ovaries, which also destroy any fetuses carried by the does, stitch them back and bring them back to the cold field. The founder, Anthony DeNicola said " Three does died shortly after being sterilized and relieased. Deaths can occur because the deer are not sctreened for age or health problems before surgery." according to New Jearsey Hunter Reports. This is against nature. This is an evil act.

I believe the Hamptons is all about the beauty of nature and living in harmony with wildlife. The nature inspires us and all kinds of artists and it has a therapeutic effect on all of us.

But Hunters are hunting on town owned land, everyday, all day, even on Weekends because our town board made the decision without taking a public vote, according to East Hampton Group of Wildlife.

Police wouldn’t help us if the hunters are shooting in your back yard.
That is why I started this petition. The town board may or may not pay attention even if I do this. But your vote is very important to show how many taxpayers care about wild animals and living in fear of the Hunters. I have faith in you! Together, we can make this change!

I am asking the town to make following changes to the Hunting regulations and to stop cruel sterilization:

-STOP WEEKEND HUNTING for every taxpayer to enjoy

-SHORTEN HUNTING HOURS from all day to 9a.m -3 p.m for school children to play outside safely

- PROHIBIT SHOTGUN use on the beaches

ENLARGE the BUFFER ZONE for firearm and longbow to 1,000 feet from ANY buildings, private properties, and on the water.

I am fighting for the voiceless animals and birds, and for our safety and rights.
I would like to ask as many people with Compassionate hearts as possible to vote! PLEASE SHARE with your friends and family, and write to your town boards about your own concerns to stop Weekend Hunting and Culling. You will feel great!!
Thank you for your kindness for all the creatures.

PEACE,

Yuka Silvera
