The Dixie County Middle/High school needs a track built.
The Issue
I am an avid runner, passionate about staying active, and I've found myself at a loss without a track at DCMHS/DCHS. Running is more than just a sport—it's a lifeline for many students like me who thrive on the discipline, endurance, and mental strength it provides. Having a track team has the potential to transform the school environment, promoting health and camaraderie among students. However, the school currently does not have a track for such activities, while, other schools in the area do.
While some might argue that there might not be enough participants for a dedicated track team or a track itself, it's important to recognize the multitude of benefits a track can bring. It can serve as a vital training and conditioning ground for other sports like football, soccer, and cross country. The track can be a multipurpose facility, enhancing athletic performance across the board by providing a safe and designated space for athletes to train effectively.
Moreover, a track team fosters a spirit of competition and collective achievement. It encourages students to set goals, work towards them, and achieve success, both individually and as a part of a team. Track and field events push students to push their limits and carry lessons learned through sports into other aspects of life, including academia and personal growth.
DCMHS/DCHS has an opportunity here to enrich its sports program and the school's culture overall. Investing in a track team and facility isn't just about picking up a new sport—it's about nurturing students' physical health, boosting their confidence, and keeping them engaged in productive activities.
