RTE is the State owned Public Service Broadcaster. It is a non-profit making organisation which receives some of its income from Television Licence fees.

The government is proposing to change the TV Licence fee in Ireland so that is will apply to smartphones, tablets and computers which can receive streaming content from the Internet.

This petition has been set up in recognition of the fact the people do not want a TV licence as RTE's content and viewership has significantly declined over the last few years.

The People's proposal is to scrap the TV licence altogether and allow RTE to fend for itself financially using its alternative revenue streams (advertising, program sponsorship etc.) and reduce its heavily overpaid presenters and executive staff.

Note, the people already pay taxes on streaming online content and how they access the content in the format of VAT. Online subscriptions and Internet providers fees are all currently subject to VAT.

Please sign this petition if you are in favour of abolishing the TV licence fee in Ireland as why should the people have to pay for something that they simply don't use.
