Sign this petition and end rapes forever. It's time justice is provided to rape victims

The Issue

Fie on us to call ourselves as citizens of free India, where every other day 90 girls in some corner of the country are raped...

Fie on us to call ourselves the biggest democracy in the world, where the peoples' representatives blame rapes on the innocent victims, their dressing and even chowmein...

Fie on us to call our country as just, where policemen ignore rape complaints and the judicial system gives bail to committers of such heinous crimes.

Take Nirbhaya case, for instance, the culprits are still alive and it's been 7 whole years.

Bapu had once said, “Judge a country by the place it gives its women.” But are we living up to his expectations and dreams?

The encounter and killing of the accused of the Hyderabad rape case had not failed to bring a sense of happiness and satisfaction into all Indians. But then on the very next dawn of Thursday, a girl from Unnao was gang-raped, stapped several times, doused in petrol and burned alive. The victim died at the Safdarjung Hospital in Delhi on Friday.

The incident has renewed the still active fire within the hearts of all Indians. And it is the plight of not only the victims' families but also of all the good-hearted common people out there- the plight of not having enough power to give rapists the punishment they deserve.

In India, rape is punished by a maximum of fifteen years' criminal imprisonment. Rape is punished by a maximum of twenty years' criminal imprisonment in certain aggravating factors (including victim under age of 15).

But is 15-20 years of imprisonment enough to avenge the destroyed life of a woman, a sister, a mother and a wife?

Is it enough to avenge the destruction of her abundant hopes and dreams?

I dare you, Google for images of Asifa Bano, the innocent 8-year old girl who was raped in Kashmir. I promise you will not be able to sleep for the coming night!

While a murderer destroys the physical frame of the victim, a rapist degrades and defiles the soul of a helpless female.

Therefore, I request you to sign this petition to bring to the notice of lawmakers to issue a death sentence to any convicted rapist, so that no one ever dares to rape a woman ever again.Period!
