STOP the skate board park at Billy Taylor Park Providence

The Issue

The Mount Hope neighborhood in Providence has approximately 6,347 residents in their community.  Recently a man named Robert Spousta has stated that the COMMUNITY has called for a skate board park at Billy Taylor Park & they want to name it for Billy.  1-Allegedly a petition was sent around the neighborhood and they have 200 signatures.  2-200 signatures is EQUAL to 3.15% of the residents!  3-PROPERTY OWNERS who abut Billy Taylor Park were NOT asked about how they felt, NOR was the MAJORITY of the neighborhood.  3-Helen Baskerville Dukes has contacted CITY COUNCILMAN KEVIN JACKSON to ask why the COMMUNITY was not asked & to demand a COMMUNITY MEETING to discuss this-YET BUILDING CONTINUES AS I TYPE.  4-THIS PARK HAS MANY EVENTS & ACTIVITIES and YOUNG CHILDREN & TODDLERS WHO PLAY THERE SO THIS IS NOT A GOOD LOCATION TO INTEGRATE A SKATE PARK!  5-THEY DO NOT HAVE MAJORITY COMMUNITY SUPPORT & NO PROJECTS GET APPROVED WITH 3.15% APPROVAL SO HOW DID THIS ONE!?!?! 6-This will AFFECT events already there AND DECREASE GREEN SPACE for the kids and community events!  7-MOST skate parks are NOT incorporated into small playground/basketball courts, but in THEIR OWN STANDALONE park!  They also require oversight.  This is being built on a PROVIDENCE PARKS DEPT PARK and ALL CITY PARKS CLOSE AT 9 pm so who is going to monitor and make sure they skate boarders leave by 9 pm?  What about proper lighting and monitoring?  What about the ADDED ambient noise from the skate park?  What about the LITTLE kids playing or when Summer league starts, how do we prevent them from getting hurt or encroached on!  And will the CITY OF PROVIDENCE be liable for injuries, etc as it a PROVIDENCE PARK?!!  AND MOST IMPORTANTLY doing this in the name of BILLY TAYLOR, God rest his soul, when you DID NOT EVEN KNOW Mr. Taylor and I honestly do not think this is what he would want, NOR is it what the MAJORITY of the community wants!  STOP THE SKATE PARK IN BILLY TAYLOR PARK!
