Dear Sirs, Resurfacing of Thiruvanmiyur Beach Road

Dear Sirs, Resurfacing of Thiruvanmiyur Beach Road
The Issue
Dear Sirs,
Despite our repeated petitions and reminders to you from Nov 2015 for resurfacing the Thiruvanmiyur Beach Road, it has still not been done.
In these five years the daily traffic to the beach has grown several-fold. After the Rialto CSR initiative of making the road and beachfront a car-free zone on weekends, the number of bikers, children and walkers including large numbers of seniors has also increased.
The safety of the road has therefore become of prime importance. In the past, I have brought to your notice several fall-related injuries to walkers including senior citizens and children.
I am now reporting to you the latest incident and first-hand experience that happened on Saturday 14th Mar 2020 at 7.15 a.m. My wife, Suguna Swamy returning from her daily routine morning walk of over 15 years, tripped on the gravel and sharp loose stones lying on the road. She hurt herself very badly and was bleeding profusely when she was helped by several passers by. She was given first aid, including stitches to her forehead and thumb at Fortis Malar Hospital. The surgeon said it was lucky she had not broken any bones or injured her eyes.
In a recent survey reported in the Times of India,Thiruvanmiyur beach was listed as one of the five cleanest beaches in India, and the only one in Tamil Nadu. But this recognition is of little comfort when the beachfront is not safe for citizens, especially residents of the neighbourhood who are working so hard and contributing generous funds to improve the locality.
I request you to please take up the re-surfacing of the road as an emergency measure, as summer is here and hundreds of visitors will converge on this road for the next several months.
If our voice is not heard then we will have no choice but to approach the Honourable High Court in Chennai with a PIL to redress our grievance. We will also take it up with the daily newspapers to help our cause.
Regards
