REQUEST FOR RECONSIDERING VACCINATED COMMUTERS VISITING RESIDENTIAL HALLS
The Issue
As an incoming freshman at TCNJ, an email has been received regarding that only residents can be other residents guests due to covid and being vaccinated. In the email it specifically states, "In reviewing current CDC guidance, they recommend colleges and universities continue to limit residential building access by non-residents and close or limit the capacity of communal spaces in residence halls to those who are fully vaccinated." When we break that down and reread "or limit the capacity of communal spaces in residence halls to those who are fully vaccinated," we can understand that this decision was made due to covid which is completely understandable but there are commuters who went out of there way to get vaccinated for college and should have the opportunity to have the freedom of going into a friends dorm when invited.
When and if allowing, Commuters should have to show proof of vaccination when signing into the residential hall as well as getting an okay from both roommates in the dorm being visited. We all carry our cards for this reason so that others may see proof and we can have access to more than we do now.
As of right now we all have access to the same study centers, classrooms, library, etc so the idea of not being allowed in the residential halls is a bit odd. We ask that it could at least possibly be taken into consideration that the rules could be change to where you are still following CDC guidelines allowing Vaccinated Commuters in residential halls so that the school is still following restrictions to where they are limiting the capacity of communal spaces in residence halls to those who are fully vaccinated whether they are commuters or residents.
Again with all due respect I understand this is a decision determined by CDC guidelines and the ongoing issue of covid which is why the petition would be limited down to discuss specifically " VACCINATED COMMUTERS.
