Turn off fountains, add drought tolerant plants, and take out plants that require a lot of water

The Issue

The State of California is in the midst of a water crisis. Scientists have estimated that there is less than five years of water left. With California being the leading member of the agricultural industry, water is critical for fresh produce that is distributed not only to the residents of the state, but the entire country. Without water (or having an extremely limited quantity), food prices will go up, which can be avoided by doing our part. There are fountains in the Valencia Town Center, the Edwards Cinema in Canyon Country, and near Bridgeport that are ignored and unnecessary. There is a geese and duck population in Bridgeport, but they could very well be located to another area, such as Reseda. Many other cities are doing their part and Santa Clarita needs to step up and contribute. Many fountains in Los Angeles, such as the ones in the Getty Center have been turned off. In Monterey, water is only served upon request at restaurants and eateries. Santa Clarita also has an abundance of plants in dividers across the roads and in shopping centers filled with roses and other plants that take up a lot of water. These plants could be taken to florists, funeral homes or elsewhere and could be replaced with drought-tolerant plants such as cacti and succulents. Rock gardens are also aesthetically pleasing as well as needing absolutely zero water. Making small changes can make a big difference over time and the state is at a very desperate point where anything can help.
