Martin Wright started this petition to The British Government

With the announcement that we are about to have another national lockdown imposed, it is time to insist that the people who promote, encourage and order this lockdown are not immune from the consequences of their recommendations and decisions.

We have yet to hear anything that suggests they understand the damage and misery that lockdown causes, perhaps because they personally consider themselves insulated from the damage and misery they are imposing on others.

However it is simply unacceptable that millions of people suffering misery, depression, destitution and ill health (or worse) from lockdown should be expected to pay the inflated salaries of the people in secure public sector jobs who created all their problems.

We therefore demand the following:

  1. That as a matter of urgency the Government orders an independent commission to examine and report on lockdown, including its effectiveness, why the Government did not listen to alternative advice and whether there were better ways of handling the virus.
  2. That the aforementioned commission produces a proper "cost benefit" analysis of lockdown, examining lives saved by lockdown, lives lost and ruined by lockdown, and the financial and economic cost of lockdown.
  3. That the aforementioned commission is totally transparent in its operation and that its report is made available to the public.
  4. If it is found that the "cost" of lockdown exceeds the "benefit" of lockdown, then all scientific advisors, politicians and senior civil servants (at say a pay grade of £45000 or above) have their salary and pension reduced proportionately.
  5. In order to prevent filibustering and delay, it is understood that the starting date for the calculation of salary and pension reductions is the 1st of November 2020, and that any salary earned after that date that has not been reduced proportionately will have to be proportionately repaid.
