Make Changes to the Maywood Town Pool Rules to Make it Safer and More Family-Friendly
The Issue
This petition is signed by those seeking a change to the Maywood Town Pool rules. The current rules and strict age restrictions make it extremely difficult for families with young children to enjoy the pool together and also creates an unsafe environment. The rules state that those under 5-years-old must stay in the wading pool and those over 5 must swim in the large pool making it impractical for parents to supervise children who fall in both categories. If a parent goes to the pool alone with their children, he/she is expected to leave their older child in the main pool without parental supervision.
The NJ State Sanitary Code for Public Recreational Bathing requires that a child be potty-trained and diaper-free to swim in the main pool, which is the criteria most town pools adhere to. What we are proposing is two-fold: (1) that a child who is potty-trained and diaper-free be allowed in the main pool in the first roped off section and be SUPERVISED by an adult and (2) that older siblings up to a certain age (possibly 7 or 8) be allowed in the kiddie pool, as long as they are not creating any trouble. These are the changes we’d like to see made to the Maywood Pool rules to make it more family-friendly and safe for everyone.
