Ban Isolation At The Bishops' Blue Coat High School Chester
Children are in school to be inspired and grow. Discipline should always be used constructively in order to guide and schools in particular have a duty to show the right example to students.
The Bishops Blue Coat High School is an Academy as such it is using Isolation and Isolation Booths as a punishment to students of all years.
Isolation means the students are placed in a quiet room in a booth. They are not allowed to talk from 8.45am until they finish school at 3.15pm - 6.5 hours. Students are given text books to learn from and NO EDUCATION from the teachers.
They have NO WINDOWS, NO EXERCISE, ESCORTED TOILET BREAKS and ONE MEAL at lunchtime brought to their booth.
Isolation is unproven as a successful discipline. Instead it is PROVEN that isolation causes depression, anxiety and is detrimental to a childs health and wellbeing. It is also AGAINST the Department of Education's Guidelines and contravenes Article 5 of the Human Rights Act: The right to liberty and security.
Students at the Bishops' Blue Coat High School are not being properly assessed for their mental health and wellbeing before being placed in isolation or isolation booths and could be causing lasting mental damage.
