NO MORE COUPS

NO MORE COUPS

The Issue

This is a petition to stop coups in Australian politics. A coup is when a Prime Minister is ousted by their own party.

We want the person we elect as Prime Minister to remain Prime Minister until voted out by the public. Opinion polls are not the same as the ballot box. There is a reason we don't vote everyday; it is hard to lead when you are constantly campaigning.

We need to eliminate the possibility of a coup; they undermine our democracy.

By signing this petition you commit to never vote for a politician who participates in any future coup.

I’m not starting this petition because I like Malcolm Turnbull. I’m not going to vote for him in the next election and I didn’t vote for him last time. So why don’t I want him gone? Because there is something greater than a politician’s job under attack. Our democracy is under attack.

This is a call for bipartisan action. Both parties need to work together to stop coups. This is how our system should operate. Instead, the refusal of the centre to work together leaves both parties vulnerable to extreme elements.

As an example, Labor is strong on climate and should support Malcolm Turnbull’s emissions target. Instead, Labor is attacking the Prime Minister because he doesn’t have the numbers within his own party to pass an emissions bill... Labor should be working with any Prime Minister who wants to implement an emissions target. Labor members should cross the floor if necessary to keep the PM in power and in turn the PM needs to compromise and work with Labor to pass policies.

This petition promises to hold both major parties accountable. Inaction from Labor is the same thing as participation in the coup from the Liberals.

Australians are sick of the games; you can end them now or we will vote to end them in next election. Labor and Liberal aren’t the only choices.
