Sack the Police Chief of South Yorkshire

The Issue

Refusal to step down, despite the extreme dangers children have been exposed to, sends out the message to Muslim Grooming gangs, as well as the British Public, that to hold a position of power within the interests of Public Office negates the need to acknowledge or accept responsibility for acts of Gross Misconduct.

STATEMENT FROM POLICE AND CRIME COMMISSIONERS 28.08.14 Response to the Change.org petition on the South Yorkshire Police and Crime Commissioner Nick Alston, Chairman of the Association of Police and Crime Commissioners (APCC) and Police and Crime Commissioner for Essex, said: “Child sexual abuse is a horrific crime and Police and Crime Commissioners work closely with Chief Constables to support their efforts to bring offenders to justice. “The APCC has no powers to sack a Police and Crime Commissioner. “Police and Crime Panels have the power to suspend a Police and Crime Commissioner only if they have been charged with an offence that carries a maximum term of imprisonment exceeding two years. “As you would expect in a democracy, ultimately the public has the power to sack their Police and Crime Commissioner at the ballot box.” ENDS
