Install solar panels at Hamilton

The Issue

The Students for a Sustainable School (SSS) club at Hamilton High School (Chandler, AZ) has for some time seriously pursued installation of solar infrastructure on campus. Unfortunately, such a project is not as simple as it appears. We have been met with skepticism and an utter refusal to communicate from the district office. Our progress has been stalled by our inability to procure energy and infrastructure data for the school and district – which should be public information. Our petition urges CUSD to cooperate and work with us and with Hamilton's Administration to further explore the possibility of procuring solar panels for the school.

With our connections with Intel and ASU's School of Sustainability, we have an action plan and a clear process in mind for starting a solar initiative at Hamilton. We need YOUR help to get the support and momentum necessary to #GoSolarHamilton!

During the last school year, Hamilton spent over half a million dollars* to pay for nearly 5.5 million kilowatt-hours of electricity! The initial cost of installing solar panel may not be cheap, but it is likely the only payment that would need to be made. The school would save money afterward, either by drastically reducing monthly energy bills or eliminating them altogether.

Hamilton High School has always been recognized as an effective learning institution, whether for its exceptional academics or impeccable athletics. With a student body over 3600 strong, the largest public school in Arizona is a place where the future of our state is developed and nurtured. As a learning institution and a leader in the community, it is Hamilton's responsibility to lead by example and promote sustainable practices and policy. Switching to solar makes economic and environmental sense.

The planet needs you. Show your support for a solar Hamilton! Sign the petition, and help SSS make it a reality.
