Petition request:
That the House of Representatives urge the Government to act on what we believe is a retail crime emergency that the Government is denying.

Petition reason:
In November 2022, a young married dairy worker was tragically murdered in an Auckland suburb while doing their job and serving their community. In July, a policewoman was brutally assaulted in broad daylight. Those on the retail front line are bashed, burgled, ram raided, and stolen from daily. We call for urgent action on the crime emergency so that retailers, our workers, and our shoppers, again feel safe being in the community.

• 33% increase in violent crime (2017-2022)
• 41% increase in victimisations (2017-2022)
• 39% more retail crime (2018-2022)
• 551% increase in ram raids (2018-2022)
• A ram raid every 10 hours in 2022
• Over 800 ram raids in 2022, 116 in August alone
• 61% increase in gang membership (2017-2022)
• Even Police aren’t safe. Last year, our frontline Police were the victims of more than 1,100 assaults – more than three every day and up from 631 in 2021.
